Sue Revill (31/10/55-08/04/19)

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Sue Revill, who was with Chandos Records for over 30 years.

Sue joined Chandos in 1985 and was in a very few years appointed Financial Director. During those years she proved an invaluable asset to the company. Her astute financial acumen benefited the company through the good years, which helped steer it through more difficult times. It helped to ensure Chandos has remained successful to this day.

A tough negotiator, for sure, but she had a very warm heart. She was the one everyone went to with personal problems. With great warmth - and a lovely Yorkshire accent - she invariably sorted things out in a very practical manner.

Whilst at Chandos her list of duties were enormous, but she managed to make time to found the highly successful Chaconne label which focused on authentic period performance. Over 250 CDs have been released on this label. Many superb recordings were made with Richard Hickox and Simon Standage and, more recently, Christian Curnyn.  They have received many awards and accolades over the years.

Sue had many outside interests too: an encyclopaedic knowledge of films (Alec Guinness was very much her favourite actor), she adored the garden (hers was ablaze with colourful flowers), travel (Venice being a particular favourite) and cycling (she enjoyed marathon cycling holidays with her husband Philip). Sue was also a superb photographer and her photographs have been displayed in exhibitions with much success.

Sue fought cancer with great bravery and dignity, trying to make her situation as easy as possible for everyone to deal with. She will be much missed by everyone who came to know her.

Ralph Couzens, Managing Director of Chandos Records, writes: ‘Sue was my right hand person at Chandos. Pragmatic, kind and tough-minded, she was a strong and steadying force both inside and outside the company. She was a foundation stone at the core of Chandos which for me will never be replaced. I miss her terribly both as a work colleague and a very close friend. RIP’
