"...The music is conservative late 19th Century Russian-elegant and pleasing, but of routine inspiration. Think Glazunov without quite his melodic gift. The beautiful and tasteful orchestration of the various episodes prevents the music from getting bland. The performance is fluent, with able solo work from several instruments. Shek's conducting is sensitive to the work's nuances, with good orchestral balances. Naxos's sound capably supports their efforts."

“… A work of great importance in the history of modern ballet, with choreography by Fokine, this enchanting score brings to life a Gobelin tapestry in a mysterious and haunted pavilion in the grounds of a French chateau.”
