“… Lewis is blessed with a dramatically alert and handsome sounding cast, beginning with Karin Wolverton’s infinitely tender performance as a Norwegian soprano, baritone Edward Parks as a French lieutenant who counts the dead as he thinks of his wife at home, and baritone Troy Cook whose priest character undergoes a test of faith in the face of widespread and mindless destruction. But perhaps top honours go to the Minnesota Opera Chorus, whose sheer opulence and emotional acuity is responsible for the opera’s most affecting moments.” ****½
