"If, as here, transcriptions are well done, the result is definitely worth listening to. The Violin Sonata op. 78 was particularly close to Brahms and Clara Schumann. For this violin sonata as well as for the Opus 120, originally for clarinet, Wallfisch and York readjusted existing transcriptions to remove weaknesses and incorrect adaptations. Their performances shed new light on these compositions without denying their special character. In the Opus 78, they succeed in emphasizing its light-filled positive energy. And at the same time, with the new character of the string part, they open up a convincing new level of warmth. With their playing, which is so eloquent and at the same time differentiated, they provide interpretations that prove a new value of these transcriptions. The listener certainly does not miss the originals." *****
