Celebrated French-Russian violinist Maria Milstein has chosen music of "boundless fantasy and richness" for her new recording on Channel Classics. The two Prokofiev Violin Concertos are extremely different and represent separate stages in the composer's career; No. 1 is poetic, heavenly and dream-like, whereas No. 2 sets an earnest and sombre tone from the opening melody. The First Concerto made an indelible impression on the award-winning violinist after she heard Oistrakh’s recording. Now, performing on a violin by Michele Angelo Bergonzi and a bow by Nicolas Léonard & François Xavier Tourte, on loan from the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation, she presents her own interpretation alongside conductor Otto Tausk and PHION, Orchestra of Gelderland & Overijssel. This recording marks the next chapter in the violinist's career, following the release of her critically acclaimed album 'Ravel Voyageur' in 2019 and her triumph at the prestigious Dutch Music Prize in 2018.

“…it’s good to be able to recommend these pointed and dynamic new readings, full of character and colour.”
Barry Forshaw – cdchoice.co.uk – 20 December 2023
“… This may be the finest orchestral performance I have heard this year to date… Milstein plays capably… She can be a little too timid with the sound, and other times a little too pinched. But it is fiendishly difficult music, and she pulls it off.”
Ned Kellenberger – American Record Guide – May/June 2023
