About
The Selva di varie compositione by Bernardo Storace, published in Messina (Sicily) in 1664, is a fascinating relic of the early baroque style in Italy. Storace, a man of enigmatic personality, had a special predilection for compositions built on ostinato bass figures or, as in his 11-minute long Pastorale for organ included here, pieces based on a single seemingly endless pedal note that create an almost hypnotic effect. Fabio Bonizzoni performs a selection of Storace’s music using a harpsichord and an original early Sicilian organ which wonderfully preserves the sound of its time.
