Jean Philippe Rameau’s instrumental music, taken from his operas and put together as “suites”, has always been one of the specialities of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century as conducted by Frans Bruggen, both live and on record. This album, containing instrumental suites built from Acante et Cephise and from Les Fêtes d’Hebe, recorded live in the Netherlands in 1996 and 1997, includes a lot of deeply moving pieces that also reflect the poetic performance practice that has always been a trademark of Bruggen’s orchestra
