In the music of the composer and pianist Nikolaj Hess, the union of different elements often unfolds. As when, in this concert piece for violin, Melody , he lets subtle impressions from jazz melt into an otherwise full-toned score for solo violin and string ensemble, which quite unusually has had a discreet rhythm group of drums and double bass added. Melody explores the intimate and nuanced emotions and narratives that are characteristic of chamber music, and is brought to life through Cæcilie Balling's refined, poetic violin playing.
