VIDDIR is an hour long piece for nine flutes, three percussionists, bass guitar and double bass. VIDDIR was written specifically for Grundtvigs Church in Copenhagen which boasts of a unique soundscape. One could say that the space itself serves as the fifteenth performer of the piece. By now, VIDDIR has been performed in several places, but the performance space itself remains a key factor to the core of the soundscape. The idea behind VIDDIR is dual. On one hand, the concept lies in the creation of various dimensions and directions of sound. The flautists are placed around the audience, while the rest of the performers are in front. In this way the sound travels in circles, back and forth, up to the ceiling and down again. On the other hand, the concept behind VIDDIR is to merge the different elements and characteristics of the different instruments into one voice, functioning together as one organism.
