“With the Symphony Orchestra from Bergen, Norway, Thomas Dausgaard presents on BIS a good recording of Anton Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony. It is an interpretation without emphasis, relatively lean, and with a lot of dynamic pulsation, sharply defined and powerful. Nothing is oversized, but nothing is underemphasized either. The tempi are neither too fast nor too slow, the sound is well balanced. The symphony’s positive, joyful mood is not expressed as strongly in the first movement as with other conductors. The Adagio is played very reflectively, and in the Scherzo a very buoyant gaiety then breaks out, making it clear why Bruckner called this symphony his jauntiest one. In the finale, this mood seems downright unbridled. All in all, this is an exciting and recommendable recording.” *****
