If there's one period to which we feel particularly drawn, it is the time when Ravel and Bartók composed their sonatas and rhapsodies. During that era, music styles from various parts of the world swept across the European continent, taking root as folk dances, blues rhythms, and exotic melodies in the hearts of classically trained musicians. Interestingly, our own situation mirrors this convergence of influences. We were nurtured by the works of Beethoven and Schubert, yet we also find inspiration from our American colleagues, Indonesian ancestors, and the worlds of pop and jazz music. Artists such as Radiohead, Brad Mehldau, and Indonesian gamelan have played a significant role in shaping our musical landscape.
Bartók and Ravel serve as guiding lights, demonstrating how traditional craftsmanship can be seamlessly combined with the sounds of other cultures. In their music, we have the opportunity to unleash our artistic skills, nurture the flame of ensemble playing, and express our love for our instruments. Simultaneously, we recognize in their compositions the infectious groove, the emotive nuances in the voice, and the raw expression that captivate us beyond the confines of the concert hall. All these elements are masterfully united. Thus, this CD not only pays homage to Ravel and Bartók but also celebrates the boundless world of music in which we find freedom and happiness. We invite you to enjoy our recording!
