Alison Stephens
Arguably the leading exponent of the classical mandolin in the UK, Alison Stephens plays frequently across the country, has toured extensively throughout the world, and regularly broadcasts live on various national radio stations. She is also head of Mandolin Studies at the Trinity College of Music, London, and Mandolin Editor for the innovative sheet music publishers Astute Music. In addition to regular concert performances, she frequently gives recitals for music clubs and festivals, both as a soloist and as a duo with guitar, harp or piano. An active recording artist, she has issued two previous discs on Chandos: Music from the Novels of Louis de Bernières with the guitarist Craig Ogden in 1999 and a CD of works by Hummel, including his Mandolin Concerto in G major, with the London Mozart Players under Howard Shelley in 2001. As well as the Louis de Bernières CD, Alison Stephens has worked on several projects in connection with Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, including a sell-out stage show, the soundtrack for the Hollywood film, a BBC Radio 4 dramatisation, a Bookmark Documentary on BBC 2, and poetry and music recitals with Craig Ogden and the author. www.alisonstephens.com
