Doric String Quartet
Described by the magazine Gramophone as ‘one of the finest young string quartets’, whose members are ‘musicians with fascinating things to say’, the Doric String Quartet has emerged as one of Britain’s leading young quartets. Its numerous awards include First Prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, Second Prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy, and Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. A regular visitor to some of Europe’s leading concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, and De Singel in Antwerp, the Quartet also has a particularly close relationship with the Wigmore Hall in London, where it took part in the Hall’s recent celebration of the music of Brett Dean. It undertakes annual tours of North America, where highlights have included performances at the Frick Museum in New York, Library of Congress and Phillips Collection in Washington DC, and Vancouver Recital Society. It has also appeared at the Carinthischer Sommer, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, West Cork, Delft, Grafenegg, Schwetzingen, and Incontri in Terra di Siena festivals. The Quartet has collaborated with Ian Bostridge, Philip Langridge, Mark Padmore, Alexander Melnikov, Andreas Haefliger, Daniel Müller-Schott, Chen Halevi, Alina Ibragimova, and Cédric Tiberghien. Notable scheduled events include recitals at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Musikverein in Vienna, and Carnegie Hall in New York. The Quartet will return to the Wigmore Hall for several performances, among them a cycle of the complete Quartets, Op. 76 by Haydn, and make appearances at the Storioni Chamber Music Festival in The Netherlands and Risør Chamber Music Festival in Norway. Having recorded exclusively for Chandos Records since 2010, the Doric String Quartet has released widely praised CDs of works by Haydn, Schubert, Schumann, Chausson, Korngold, Janácek, Martinu, and Walton, earning two Gramophone Award nominations. www.doricstringquartet.com
