William Purefoy
A graduate of Magdalen College Oxford, William Purefoy attended Guildhall School of Music and Drama where, as a student, he was a finalist in the 1995 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and the 1997 Gold Medal Competition, and a winner of the NFMS Young Concert Artists Award. He has sung in opera and concert around the world, appearing with the English National Opera, English Concert, The Sixteen and the Symphony of Harmony and Invention, City of London Sinfonia, New London Consort, BBC Concert Orchestra, Purcell Quartet, Concordia and I Fagiolini; and in recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Barbican and Purcell Room as well as in Innsbruck, Graz, Passau, Brezice and Radjovlica. Operatic work has included Andronico (Tamerlano) and FIVE:15 with Scottish Opera, Ottone (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) with Theater Basel, Ptolemy (Giulio Cesare) and Dr Nice (Evening Hymn) with Staatsoper Hannover, Ascanio (Ascanio in Alba), Athamas (Semele) and Lychas (Hercules) at Buxton Festival, Apollo (Apollo and Hyacinthus) with Opera Theatre Company, Truth (Barry’s The Triumph of Beauty and Deceit) with Almeida Opera and in Carnegie Hall, Coridon (Acis and Galatea) with New Kent Opera and Sir Philip Sydney (Angel Magick by John Harle) at the BBC Proms, among many other roles.
