Toby Spence
An honours graduate and choral scholar from New College, Oxford, the tenor Toby Spence studied at the Opera School of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In concert, he has sung with The Cleveland Orchestra under Christoph von Dohnányi, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra under Sir John Eliot Gardiner, San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski, London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Colin Davis, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Antonio Pappano, and Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century under Frans Brüggen. He has further appeared at the Salzburger Festspiele and Edinburgh International Festival under Sir Roger Norrington and Sir Charles Mackerras. His recital work has taken him to the Edinburgh Festival, and to St Luke’s and the Wigmore Hall in London. Toby Spence appears regularly with English National Opera and The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and has also sung with Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, Théâtre royal de la Monnaie, Brussels, De Nederlandse Opera, Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, San Francisco Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, Opéra de Paris, The Santa Fe Opera, and Theater an der Wien.
