Thomas Dausgaard
Born in 1963, Thomas Dausgaard became Chief Conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR in August 2004 after three years as Principal Guest Conductor. His contract was recently extended through the 2009/10 season. Since 1997 he has been Music Director of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra with which he has appeared at the Mostly Mozart and Ravinia festivals and the BBC Proms. He also enjoys a strong relationship with the orchestras of the Bayerischer Rundfunk and Leipzig Gewandhaus, as well as the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, among others. As a guest conductor he appears regularly with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the RAI Torino and Teatro alla Scala orchestras, and the symphony orchestras of Toronto and Houston. During the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons he is scheduled to make his debut with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Thomas Dausgaard’s extensive discography includes the Chandos recording of Per Nørgård’s Symphony No. 6, which was nominated for a 2002 Gramophone Award.
