The London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane AO enjoys a flourishing international career, which has taken him to more than forty countries. Highlights of the past few years include receiving a standing ovation for his performance of Busoni’s massive Piano Concerto at Carnegie Hall, New York; giving premieres of Carl Vine’s Piano Concerto No. 2, written for him, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra; and performing sold-out recitals at the Wigmore Hall, London. With more than ninety works in his concertante repertoire, he has performed with orchestras and conductors of the first rank all over the world and appeared five times as soloist at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall. As a chamber musician, he has performed extensively with numerous singers, instrumentalists, and chamber ensembles. His diverse discography, which numbers more than fifty CDs, includes much admired recordings of rarely heard romantic piano concertos, complete sets of Études by Camille Saint-Saëns, Alexander Scriabin, Adolf von Henselt, and Ignaz Moscheles, and the Piano Quintets by Sir Edward Elgar, Ernest Bloch, Sir Hamilton Harty, Frank Bridge, Antonín Dvořák, Sergey Taneyev, Anton Arensky, Gabriel Pierné, and Max Bruch with the Goldner String Quartet. Recently he has released recordings of the complete piano concertos by Malcolm Williamson and two piano concertos by Mozart, among others. For Chandos he has recorded works for violin and piano by Schubert, Strauss, Respighi, and several British composers with Tasmin Little, and The Virtuoso Clarinet with Michael Collins. Piers Lane is Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. In the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours, he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished services to the arts as pianist, mentor, and organiser. www.pierslane.com
