Peter Wedd
The tenor Peter Wedd studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with William McAlpine and subsequently at the National Opera Studio. From 1999 to 2001 he was a Company Principal at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden where he sang roles such as Ywain (Birtwistle’s Gawain) and Kudrjáš (Kat’á Kabanová). At Welsh National Opera his roles have included Don José (Carmen), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni). In the UK he has also appeared at Opera Holland Park, the Aldeburgh Festival, and English National Opera, and will soon sing Laca (Jenufa) for Glyndebourne on Tour. Abroad he has sung for Nationale Reisopera and Opera Australia, and is scheduled soon to appear as Lensky (Eugene Onegin) at the Stadttheater Bern. In concert he has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. On disc Peter Wedd has recorded, among others, Don Riccardo (Ernani), Lord Arturo Bucklaw (Lucia of Lammermoor), Pong (Turandot), Dancaïre (Carmen), Števa (Jenufa), Steersman (The Flying Dutchman), Jaquino (Fidelio), Chevalier de la Force (The Carmelites), and Kudrjáš (Katya Kabanova), all in the Opera in English series for Chandos.
