Peter Rose

A regular guest at the world’s most important opera houses, the bass Peter Rose has appeared at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, The Metropolitan Opera, New York, the Vienna Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Deutsche Oper and Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, Salzburger Festspiele and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. His enormous repertoire includes Ramphis (Aida), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), Somnus (Handel’s Semele), Daland (Der fliegende Holländer), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), the Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Kecal (The Bartered Bride), Banquo (Macbeth), Philip II (Don Carlos), Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Claggart (Billy Budd) and Falstaff. He has won particular acclaim for his performances of Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier) which he has sung variously in Aix-en-Provence, Paris, London, Rome, at his debut at The Metropolitan Opera, New York and for Glyndebourne Festival Opera. A prolific concert artist, he has sung under Sir Colin Davis, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Sir Georg Solti and Kurt Masur, among others, with orchestras such as The Cleveland Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic. Peter Rose appears on a half dozen recordings in Chandos’ Opera in English series.
