Pamela Helen Stephen
The mezzo-soprano Pamela Helen Stephen studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, with Herta Glaz at the Opera Theater Center in Aspen, Colorado, and in Toronto with Patricia Kern. She has sung with The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Los Angeles Opera, Opera Australia, in Lisbon and Singapore and at the Spoleto, Wexford and Batignano festivals. Her repertoire includes Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Madame Popova (The Bear), Cynthia (Playing Away), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and the title role in Sir Lennox Berkeley’s Ruth. In concert she has performed such works as Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne, Britten’s Spring Symphony and Phaedra, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ and Les Nuits d’été, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Requiem. Pamela Helen Stephen has appeared with all the leading British orchestras and in Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Austria, the Czech Republic, Japan and Australia. For Chandos she has recorded the roles of Nancy (Albert Herring) and Desideria (The Saint of Bleecker Street) as well as the complete Haydn Masses with Collegium Musicum 90 under her husband, Richard Hickox, among others.
