Mark Padmore

The London-born tenor Mark Padmore began his musical studies on the clarinet before gaining a choral scholarship to King’s College, Cambridge. In the opera house he has worked with such theatrically minded directors as Peter Brook, Katie Mitchell, Mark Morris and Deborah Warner, recent work including roles in Les Troyens at the Théâtre musical du Châtelet in Paris and Handel’s Jephtha at Welsh National Opera and English National Opera, besides Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw for BBC TV. In concert he has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin, Vienna and New York Philharmonics, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Hallé Orchestra. He also appears frequently with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. With regular collaborators such as Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles and Andrew West, and working also with Imogen Cooper, Till Fellner and Paul Lewis, Mark Padmore sings frequently at the Wigmore Hall and has given recitals across Europe, in Moscow and New York. His large discography includes masses by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn and Hummel, songs by Grainger, and roles in operas by Britten, Purcell, Vaughan Williams and Vivaldi. www.markpadmore.com
