Marcus Farnsworth
A past First Prize winner of the Wigmore Hall / Kohn Foundation International Song Competition, and the master of a wide range of repertoire, from Bach through the classical and romantic repertoire to contemporary works, the baritone Marcus Farnsworth is in demand for recitals, symphonic concerts, recording studios, and on the operatic stage throughout Europe. Among notable highlights have been performances of Candide with the London Symphony Orchestra, Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King at the BBC Proms, H.K. Gruber’s Frankenstein!! with the Aurora Orchestra, and Kurt Weill’s Street Scene at Teatro Real, Madrid. As well as new works, including Colin Matthews’s The Great Journey, Marc-Anthony Turnage’s The Silver Tassie, the world première of Cheryl Frances-Hoad’s Last Man Standing, and Frank Hubbard in John Adams’s Doctor Atomic, he has performed Britten’s War Requiem, Elgar’s The Apostles, Orff’s Carmina burana, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, and Fauré’s Requiem with conductors such as François-Xavier Roth, Paul McCreesh, and Bernard Labadie. Marcus Farnsworth is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Southwell Music Festival.
