Karen Geoghegan
Karen Geoghegan began her studies at the Junior department of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under Janet Bloxwich. Whilst there, she won the Gilbert Innes Prize for woodwind as well as the 2004 concerto competition, and was awarded the Wolfson Scholarship. She is currently studying with John Orford as a third year undergraduate at the Royal Academy of Music. She was awarded a full entrance scholarship from the South Square Trust and the Leverhulme Foundation. During her time at the Royal Academy, she has won the Violet M. Wallace Award, the Florence Woodbridge Prize for bassoon and the Helen Read Prize. Karen Geoghegan was runner-up in the 2007 BBC 2 programme Classical Star for her performance of Hummel’s Bassoon Concerto with the City of London Sinfonia at LSO St Luke’s. She has recently appeared as a soloist with the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, the Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
