Emily Birsan
The American soprano Emily Birsan is well known for her prominent interpretations of concert and operatic repertoire and a critically acclaimed recitalist. Recently, for the first time, she sang the roles of Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) at Madison Opera, Wisconsin, Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) at Boston Lyric Opera, and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the Lyric Opera of Chicago she has appeared as the Italian Singer (Capriccio), Servilia (La clemenza di Tito), Xenia (Boris Godunov), and Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel). At Florida Grand Opera she has sung Leila (Les Pêcheurs de perles). On the concert platform, she made her debut with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Missa solemnis, appeared for the first time with the Chicago Philharmonic Society, and was a soloist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in London in The Beatitudes by Sir Arthur Bliss. She has sung Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress) at the Edinburgh International Festival, and recently made her Carnegie Hall debut in Mozart’s Mass in C minor. During the 2017 / 18 season she will join the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in concert, sing Violetta (La traviata) at Indianapolis Opera, appear in Handel’s Messiah with the Jacksonville Symphony, sing Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and return to the Lyric Opera of Chicago for a production of I puritani.
