Dalia Stasevska

Chief Conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Lahti International Sibelius Festival, Dalia Stasevska also holds the post of Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and has made several appearances at the BBC Proms, including the First Night of the Proms, in 2023. She studied violin and composition at the Tampere Conservatoire and violin, viola, and conducting at the Sibelius Academy, in Helsinki, where her conducting teachers included Jorma Panula and Leif Segerstam. She appears as a guest conductor with prominent orchestras worldwide such as the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, The Netherlands, Orchestre national de France, and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and has conducted Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Glyndebourne Festival Opera. A passionate advocate for the music of contemporary composers, in both concert programming and recordings, she has conducted works by Thomas Adès, Helen Grime, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Noriko Koide, Anna Meredith, Andrew Norman, Kaija Saariaho, Caroline Shaw, Outi Tarkiainen, Andrea Tarrodi, Judith Weir, and Julia Wolfe, amongst others. She conducted the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the Nobel Prize Ceremony in 2018, and in 2020 received the Order of Princess Olga by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for contributing to the development of international cooperation, strengthening the prestige of Ukraine, and promoting its historical and cultural heritage. Dalia Stasevska was awarded the Conductor Award of the Royal Philharmonic Society in 2020, Alfred Kordelin Prize in 2022, and award for Personality of the Year by BBC Music Magazine in 2023.
