Andrew Staples
A graduate of King’s College, Cambridge, the Royal College of Music, and Benjamin Britten International Opera School, the tenor Andrew Staples has given concert performances with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Sir Simon Rattle; Orchestre de Paris, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding; Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Chamber Orchestra under Andrew Manze; Gävle Symphony Orchestra under Robin Ticciati; Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest and Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin; and Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Semyon Bychkov. His operatic roles include Jacquino (Fidelio), Flamand (Capriccio), Artabanes (Arne’s Artaxerxes), Narraboth (Salome), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte). He has appeared at The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, National Theatre in Prague, Théâtre royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Staatsoper Hamburg, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Theater an der Wien, Lucerne Festival, Salzburger Festspiele, and BBC Proms. His discography includes recordings of Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle, Handel’s Messiah with Le Concert d’Astrée under Emmanuelle Haïm, and Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Daniel Harding.
